Challenge:

After the success of the Xbox One retail display program, Design Phase reconnected with CE Labs to bring forward a new opportunity with Garmin.
Garmin wanted to enhance their presence inside Best Buy stores with interactive Smart Displays. The challenge was that retail environments like Best Buy often do not provide internet access for vendor displays. This meant Garmin’s displays had to run fully offline, while still delivering a seamless, engaging customer experience.

Requirements:

To meet Garmin’s needs, CE Labs had to:
  • Deliver 24″ Smart Displays with touchscreen capability
  • Ensure offline playback without internet connectivity
  • Preload and duplicate marketing content for hundreds of units
  • Lock displays into kiosk mode to prevent tampering by customers
  • Create guides and manuals so DesignPhase techs could update content easily

CE Labs Products & Solutions:

  • QSKiosk APK – a custom-built kiosk application that:
    • Looped content seamlessly
    • Locked down the Android system to kiosk mode
    • Prevented customers from altering settings or apps
